Qui-gon manages to convince him to spare Jar-Jar's life and they depart for Theed, where they rescue Queen Amidala. He brings them there, where they fight off hostile Gungan guards before confronting Boss Nass. There, they meet with Jar-Jar Binks, an exile of the underwater Gungan city. They reach the hangar bay and escape in a ship to the swamps of Naboo.
Realising it is an assassination attempt, the two Jedi escape the room and fight their way through the ship, battling the Trade Federation Battle droids. However, after they arrive on the ship, the room they are being held in begins to fill with poisonous gas. Hoping to resolve the conflict, the Chancellor of the Galactic Republic, Finis Valorum, sends two Jedi Knights, Qui-Gon Jinn and his padawan, Obi-wan Kenobi, to negotiate with the Viceroy. The Trade Federation, led by Viceroy Nute Gunray, has a formed a blockade of the planet Naboo. For example, it follows Queen Amidala and Captain Panaka's adventure on Coruscant during Anakin Skywalker's interview in the Jedi Temple - something that is never shown or mentioned in the film since the film follows Anakin's point of view. Which sucks because, was the rest of the script good, it would have worked.The plot closely follows that of the film, although it expands on some minor events that could have been silenced or cut from the film, or shows them from a different character's point of view. But Lucas held back on having scenes perform more than one purpose and I think that is what he took away from The Phantom Menace. Small decisions add up and lead to boring places. The next two films suffer the same fundamental issue as the first in that the overarching story doesn't pan out in a way that makes good prose. By the time anyone at Lucasfilm realized the sticky mess they made, the filming was complete and if anyone, George included, pulled their head out of Lucas' ass and realized it was shit, there was nothing that could be done. And once you've filmed that your hands are tied because your choice is to restart filming or try to salvage it and realistically you can't just decide to scrap it all. But poor ideas in the overall script meant you had one or two things that worked mixed in with something that didn't.
That is actually good writing in a sense. One scene will continue two or three plot threads at once. The problem is Lucas, to his credit, wove everything together. Please remember to SEED as I don't have infinite bandwidth.
I also wouldn't mind answering any questions you might have about the editing process and why I made some certain changes that differ from the Original Phantom Edit. I would truly appreciate any willing Redditors out there screening the cut and giving me their review on it.

This cut has much of the child pandering merchandise making content removed from it. I'm a hobby editor who's just completed work on a remastered edition of the original Phantom Edit of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
